Flower Communion

This Sunday, our Fellowship celebrates Flower Communion. If you can, please bring  a flower or two, from your garden, your neighbor’s garden (we suggest asking first), or the local grocery.

This Flower Ceremony is an annual ritual that celebrates beauty, nature, human uniqueness, joy, diversity, and community. Originally created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Rev. Norbert Fabian Čapek of Prague, the ceremony was introduced to the United States by his wife, the Rev. Mája Čapek. Unitarian Universalists around the world continue to celebrate this beloved ritual.

In this service, everyone in the congregation brings a flower and places it in a shared vase. The congregation and ministers bless the flowers, and they’re redistributed so that each person takes home a different flower than the one they brought. All are invited to participate; we will have a few extra flowers for anyone who arrives without one.

Erin Parish is in our Fellowship’s pulpit this Sunday, and Anna Deyle serves as worship associate. Our Chalice Choir sings under the direction of Tane’ DeKrey.
