Lughnasadh Field Day: Games of Lugh & First Harvest, Sunday, August 2, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

August brings long sunny days and oppressive heat, and it opens with Lughnasadh, the first harvest festival on the Wheel of the Year. In the old agricultural calendar, this was the moment you found out whether the work you put in actually came back to you. Lughnasadh carries a second tradition too: the Games of Lugh, a great assembly of skill, competition, and communal celebration.

Sunny and hot August opens with Lughnasadh, the first harvest festival of the Wheel of the Year. In some old European agricultural calendars, this was when you found out whether your work came back to you. Lughnasadh also celebrates skill, competition and communal celebrations with the Games of Lugh.

Join us at UUFG as we honor and harvest. After a shorter service in our Sanctuary, starting at 11 am, we will host indoor field games for all ages and abilities. Paper planes, relay races, discus throws, and a limbo contest nobody is going to win with grace. This is the harvest of skill: what you’ve learned, what you can do, and what you’re willing to share.

We look forward to gathering in play, gratitude, and community as we celebrate the first harvest together. This service and Field Day are facilitated by our Fellowship’s Sacred Oak CUUPs chapter.
