Green Team

The Green Team works to bring environmental consciousness to UUFG life. We practice earth stewardship by promoting sustainability, greening our building and grounds, connecting with nature, and educating about climate change. See Noelle Silk for more information or contact the Fellowship’s office at uuoffice@uufg.org.

Pollinator Garden

  • UUFG's Pollinator Garden

Pollinator gardens are native plantings designed to provide food for native bees, butterflies, wasps, and other helpful insects. UUFG installed a pollinator garden in the fall of 2024. It is located along the front of the property where its explanatory signage is visible to passers-by.

The garden was arranged by Bee City USA, financed with City of Gainesville tree removal mitigation funds, and designed and shepherded by the Florida Wildflower Foundation. UUFG is responsible for its upkeep.

Green Sanctuary

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville is a UUA-designated Green Sanctuary. As a congregation, we have endorsed the Earth Charter and are committed to:

  • Build awareness of societal environmental issues among Unitarian Universalists;
  • Generate commitment for personal lifestyle changes;
  • Motivate Unitarian Universalists to community action on environmental issues;
  • Build a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness; and
  • Build awareness of and rectify environmental injustices.

Electric Car Show at UUFG

UUFG Solar Panels

In line with our UU value to protect the earth, in March 2024, at the request initiated by the Social Justice Council, UUFG installed a solar array on the roof of our main building. It was installed by a local solar company, Solar Impact, for $90,200 thanks to generous donations by members of UUFG and the UUFG Foundation. This array currently saves $500 or more a month in our energy bill. See Alice Gridley for more information.
