The President's Perspective -- July 2019

This year, your Board has agreed to commit time to learn together on a monthly basis. Sometimes that “learning together” is a “common read” of a book on governance, leadership, or congregational life/dynamics; sometimes we use a curriculum, etc. With a new minister coming, the learning session will help us deepen our understanding of governance in a religious organization.

We will be using the UUA LeaderLab’s Congregational Board Member Training (available free online at www.uua.org/leadership/programs/board-training). The training includes 12 modules, and we will be reading in advance and discussing each section once per month. The first two months covers the question, What is the purpose of a board?

At the July learning session (Wednesday, July 31 at 6:30 — 7:00 pm), we will go over the “Call of Duty,” or governing basics section. We encourage any interested members to learn along with us by reading the online module and coming to the Board’s 30-minute pre-meeting discussion. Stay for the Board Meeting at 7:00 pm.

In Fellowship,
Kristin Stevens, Congregation President
