The President's Perspective -- August 2017

This is the time of year when we gear up for the new Fellowship year. The Board welcomes two new board members, Aaron Broadwell and Richard Curtis. We are grateful for the service of Mary Anthony and Ron Lange who completed their terms on the Board at the end of June. [Click "Read more..." to continue]

On September 22nd UUFG will welcome Consultant Barry Finkelstein who will spend the weekend getting to know us and make recommendations that will help us as we move through or developmental journey. He will explain how the Stewardship for Us team can guide us as we move forward. To learn more about his Next Steps visit, click HERE. If you have a leadership role at UUFG I urge you set aside time on Friday evening, September 22nd and Saturday, September 23rd to meet with Barry.

On Sunday following the service there will be a Town Hall Meeting open to all members during which Barry will offer his observations and recommendations. In order for us to take maximum advantage of Barry’s expertise I urge you to participate in Next Steps weekend. Very soon we will fine tune the weekend schedule and let you know when your particular areas of service will be discussed. Please save the dates!

During September the Board will be working to ensure that important roles in our community are filled. Think for a moment about your personal interests and skills. Where do they best fit to help our community thrive while helping you find your niche at UUFG? Do you like working in your garden? We have opportunities in the Memory Garden and the Courtyard. Good with numbers? We need you in Finance or Stewardship. You're a people person? Can you be a Pastoral Associate or help out in Membership or Personnel? Would you like to work with other churches to serve people in need in the Gainesville area? Family Promise is a very successful bridge from homelessness to housing that our Social Justice group supports.

All these roles and others are needed to keep UUFG humming, and we humans need meaningful activities to help us feel fulfilled. Find your niche!

In Fellowship,
Marilyn Roberts
Congregation President
