UUFG is seeking a new part-time Music Director.

At least a Bachelor's degree in music with appropriate coursework in choral music and conducting. Knowledge of vocal technique and the ability to work with singers of all skill levels is required.  Additional desired characteristics include a compelling leadership style, excellent communication and organizational skills, great conducting technique, vocal ability, and a stylistically diverse repertoire of choral literature.

  • Conduct an adult volunteer choir.  Rehearsals are on Thursday evening. Sing in Sunday morning services most Sundays from August 15 through June 15, the Christmas Eve service, and occasional special events in the church or community. From approximately June 16 – August 14, duties are lighter, with one or two “summer choir” rehearsals and anthems, and time for planning is available.
  • Lead congregational singing from hymn books during Sunday services.
  • Collaborate with the minister and lay leaders to create meaningful Sunday services, including selecting thematically appropriate choral music and coordinating additional musical offerings by congregation members, visiting musicians, or the music director.
  • Encourage congregational participation by providing diverse musical experiences by and for all ages and levels of mastery, including occasional intergenerational choirs.
  • Administer the music program, including managing the budget, supervising the music staff (pianist), and attending all-staff meetings.
  • Maintain and build a diverse and orderly music library.
  • Work with the Choir Circle to enhance the choir experience and plan outreach activities.
  • Plan and make arrangements for guest musicians or alternate music for services when choir does not sing.

Position: Position: 15 hours per week. The number of hours could be increased by successfully expanding the music program, for example by establishing a children's choir.

Salary Range: Salary Range: $18 to $22 per hour commensurate with experience.

The review of applications will begin immediately. We are hoping to have the new Music Director start in October.
