Meet Our New Minister, Rev. Christe Lunsford!

On Sunday, March 5, the UUFG Congregation voted to call Rev. Christe Lunsford to serve as the Fellowship's new settled minister. Christe has accepted the call; their ministry will officially begin on August 1, 2019.

Christe Lunsford, Ministerial CandidateRev. Christe Lunsford is currently serving as Intern Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford, Illinois. Christe holds a Master of Divinity from Meadville Lombard Theological School as well as a Masters in Fine Arts for Theatrical Production and Design from Florida Atlantic University.

Rev. Christe is excited about joining the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville to celebrate the joys and sorrows in life in beloved community while seeking truth and meaning in the world.

Christe is dedicated to anti-racism and anti-oppression work. As a trans-masculine/non-binary person who uses they/them pronouns, Rev. Christe’s call toward parish ministry serves to lift up voices from the margins as a way of de-centering whiteness and demand the same of others. They work to create communities that are able to have deep conversations about difficult topics, ever-seeking what holds each of us back from creating the world in which we wish to live.

Christe is also a UU Credentialed Music Leader and a leader in several UU professional organizations. They believe that the most effective way to change the world is by changing their environment at home, congregation and city, often one person at a time.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Christe was invited into Preliminary Fellowship by the Ministerial Fellowshipping Committee of the UUA last year and will be ordained on June 9 at First Unitarian in Louisville.

Christe and their partner Dianna Ott, a Communications and Marketing Consultant, have two adult children and two dogs.

Rev. Christe was ordaned on June 9 at Furst Unitarian in Louisville, KY.

Candidating Week

The eight-day Candidating Week took place from April 27 through May 5, offering Christe and their partner many opportunities to meet with parishioners. Christe delivered the sermon on Sunday, April 28, then met with various committees, congregants, staff, and Governing Board during the following week, and they finally delivered another sermon the following Sunday, May 5. After that last service, the membership voted to ratify the choice of the Search Committee and thereby accept Christe as our new minister. The vote was 105-1 in favor.
