Foundation Spring 2020 Grant Application

Wild plums and azaleas are in full bloom. Sandhill cranes are chortling their way back north. It’s spring!

Have you been nurturing a “manifesting UU values” idea all fall and winter? Time for blossoms and fruit!

Your UUFG Foundation has $16,500 available for grant projects in 2020. We’ll be accepting grant applications until Sunday May 3, 2020, and funding decisions will be made shortly afterwards. The extended application period allows for time to coordinate plans with the UUFG Board in addition to your program committee.

Supporting and Giving to UUFG

There are many ways to support UUFG.  Your presence, your time and talent, and your annual giving all contribute to make UUFG a vibrant congregation.

There is another way to support UUFG and that is through the UUFG Foundation. The Foundation invests, with professional management, for long term gain.  The interest earned on funds and investments provide money for funding grant applications which improve our life here at UUFG.  Consider a year end donation to the Foundation.

Another way to give and to provide benefits to you is through a charitable gift annuity.  You receive interest earned (4.7% for a $10,000 gift for a person 65 yrs. old) and name the beneficiary of the gift.  For more information on this type of gift go this UUA webpge.

More information on planned giving is available HERE.

About the Foundation and its Management

The Foundation is a trust fund which was established in 1982, and operates as an agent of the Fellowship. Its purpose is to receive money, invest, and make grants to strengthen liberal religious causes, in accordance with the stated mission of the Fellowship.

How is the UUFG Foundation funded?

The Foundation accepts gifts or bequests from members of the congregation or others who wish to make a memorial or honorary gift.

Who controls the Fund?

Five directors who are appointed by the UUFG Governing Board, direct the activities of the Foundation. They may serve for two three year rotating terms. All serve without pay or other remuneration.

How are funds managed?

Foundation monies are actively invested in a way to maximize capital growth while safeguarding the principle. All directors must agree on investment decisions. Resources of the Foundation are not spent for current operating expenses of the Fellowship, nor are they to be used in for-profit ventures which might jeopardize the status of the Foundation as a charitable trust.

How does the UUFG Foundation make grants?

Applications for grants are available twice a year in the spring and fall. Grant application forms are signed by the Program Council chair before they are submitted to the Foundation. This ensures that they are consistent with our UUFG principles and not in conflict with any existing UUFG programs. The requests are then reviewed by the Foundation Directors. Award of grants requires the approval of at least four of the five Directors.

How has the UUFG Foundation spent funds in the past?

Items as diverse as materials promoting the growth of the congregation, religious education enrichment, a sound enhancement system, computers, landscape beautification and religious symbols for the front of the sanctuary have been provided to the Fellowship by Foundation grants.

How does the congregation know the current status of the Foundation's work?

The Foundation makes an annual report to the Governing Board in March following the close of its fiscal year and is available by request of any UUFG member. A summary of that report, as well as current Foundation activities, is available on the UUFG website.

How can I find our more about the UUFG Foundation?

You may contact any Director who will be happy to discuss your gift with you.
