Pastoral Letter: Haiti
Written by Rev. Meredith Garmon

February Services, 11 AM

February  7.
How Unitarians Invented Air
Rev. Sara Zimmerman, UU Church of Tampa
In the 18th century, Joseph Priestly grew up in England in a family with strict Calvinist views.  His precociousness made him a great skeptic, however, and he rebelled.  Eventually, he was a founder of the Unitarian movement in England, and an important influence on the early stages of Unitarianism in America and on the founding fathers of our country. Oh, yeah, he also discovered oxygen.
7th Sunday of Winter—7th UU Principle:
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

February 14.
Being, Be-longing, Be-loving: The Structure of Community
Rev. LoraKim Joyner
In celebration of love this Valentine’s Day, we look at how passing through the fires of love and the forge of longing builds community.  You heard about the birds in January, now come hear about the bees!
8th Sunday of Winter—1st UU Source:
Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life.

February 21.
Scared: The Care and Feeding of a Troublesome Emotion
Rev. Meredith Garmon
The science of fear has much to teach us about where fears come from and why—and how we should care for the feeling without becoming ruled by it.
9th Sunday of Winter—2nd UU Source:
Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love.

February 28.
Golfing with Monkeys
Rev. Scott Alexander
By way of a curious British story, Rev. Alexander will explore a crucial aspect of how we human beings find spiritual and emotional health. Rev. Alexander serves the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bethesda, Maryland and is the author of several well known books, including: The Relational Pulpit, Everyday Spiritual Practices, and The Welcoming Congregation.
10th Sunday of Winter—3rd UU Source:
Wisdom from the world’s religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life.
