Serve the Community

At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville we help one another, we help those in need, and we work towards righting the many injustices in the world. Volunteering in the broader Gainesville community is thus an important part of our ministry, and we are active in a wide range of programs. From helping under-privileged children in Alachua County schools become successful, productive contributors to society, to building and renovating homes for those in need, there is much we do to try and make Gainesville and the larger world a better place. Find out more about these and many other ways you might volunteer with the church in the broader community.

Change in Our Communities

Our Social Justice Council has decided on a theme for this next year (July to June): Beyond the Welcoming Congregation — Being Radically Inclusive.  All of our social justice programming will be oriented toward meeting and exceeding the call of being radically inclusive, both externally and internally.  The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville offers many opportunities for you to explore your own call to be radically inclusive: to go out into our local Gainesville community and make a difference.  If you want to be involved in changing the lives of others while transforming your own, find out which of our social justice ministries is right for you by talking to one of our Social Justice leaders or attending a Social Justice Council meeting.  Information on many of our programs can be found each Sunday after service in the Phillips Hall.

Areas of involvement:

  • Economic Justice: house the homeless, feed the children, help the needy, and improve quality of life
  • Environmental Justice: advocate for the earth, encourage changes towards sustainability, build connection between spirit and nature, ethical eating
  • LGBT Welcoming: celebrate diversity, expand our welcoming presence, support equal rights in our community
  • Multiculturalism: work for racial equality, create the beloved community, support people regardless of immigration status
  • Peace
