The President's Perspective -- August, 2016

The dog days of August are upon us, but the usual slow summer months are over at UUFG, and as the month comes to a close and we pick up steam heading into fall, here’s what has been happening: [Click "Read more..." to continue]

The first thing I’m sure you’ll notice if you look down (assuming you are reading this in the Gazette) is the new carpeting in our Sanctuary! The new carpet looks great, and it really changes the way the space feels. Many thanks go out to our Flooring Team, including Marilyn Roberts, Jon Colburn, Lynne Capehart, Mary Bahr and, of course, all the members at UUFG who donated money for this particular effort!

Our excellent Chalice Choir, led by Music Director Tony Canty, held a retreat for choir members, and is now back in action after being off for the summer.

It’s also been a month of transition in our RE program, as we said farewell to our outgoing DRE, Nureet Carmel, and welcomed our incoming DRE, Nicole Alemanne. Nicole is already off to a fast start – stop by her office or find her out on the playground and say hi!

Social Justice was also quite active this month, holding a Black Lives Matter meeting led by Gene Mills, Mallory Szymanski, and Zoharah Simmons. UUFG also hosted families in need via the Family Promise project in August, with many members assisting in the setup and take down efforts.

In Governing Board news, we’re very excited and pleased to announce that we have been approached with a generous offer that would allow us to add a solar power system to our campus! The Board will be working with the Facilities Team and looking further into the project, and more information will be provided soon, as the details of the project planning get worked out.

Upcoming news and events — Please be sure to attend the Town Hall meeting on Sunday, September 11, at 12:30 pm in the Sanctuary, immediately after the Social Justice Activities Fair, which will be going on in the social hall. We will be discussing our year two developmental ministry goal and how we will work on it this year.

In Fellowship,
Pete Runyan
