Socrates Cafe

1st Sunday of the month

7:00pm
Phillips Social Hall

Next Socrates Cafe:  Sunday, May 6, 2012

Topics are not selected in advance; rather, determining each gathering's philosophical interests is the first order of business. A two-stage nomination-and-voting process selects the evening's topic. Virtually any question can be fine-tuned so it can be looked at in a philosophical way.

What is a just war? What is an excellent marriage? Who owns a life? What is good taste? We then jump into the topic. There is a facilitator whose job is to look for built-in assumptions and embedded concepts, to notice differences of kind and degree, to point to logical implications or inconsistencies, and to seek out objections and alternative viewpoints.

Sunday Discussion Group

Lively discussions of current topics and concerns, run by a facilitator. This is open to the community and members.

9:30 AM - 10:30 AM
Common Room on the UUFG campus
