Our congregation has several means of communication. Contact our office administrator, Cam Pierce, (352-377-1669 or e-mail him at

) for more information or to be put in touch with a contact person for any of the following. The Millhopper NewsletterOur newsletter, The Millhopper, is published monthly and mailed to all members and subscribers. Subscriptions are $15/year and can be arranged through the office. The submission deadline is 12 noon the third Sunday of each month. Submissions can be made by email to

or placed in the Millhopper file in the Fellowship office. Copy will be edited and sized to fit. Current issues and archives are available online for members. Sunday GazetteDistributed to congregants each Sunday, the Gazette contains short announcements mainly pertaining to the coming week. An announcement will be run twice in the two weeks before the event occurs. Announcements need to get to Cam in the office by Wednesday before the Sunday when they are to run. It’s best to e-mail Cam at

. Be sure to tell Cam whether yours is a one- or two-Sunday announcement. If you miss the Gazette deadline, you can use the chalkboard or white board message boards outside the sanctuary to post your message for Sunday Service goers. Our UUFG SignThe sign at the front of our property serves two functions: to list our Sunday service time and sermon topic and to provide a thought-provoking message that might get a passer-by to recognize that our congregation is different from other religious denominations, especially mainstream Christianity—a tall order! If you are in charge of an event open and of interest to the public, it can be posted on the sign, space and letters permitting. Contact the office to make arrangements. Photo DirectoryThe 2008-2009 edition of the UUFG Photo Directory has been published and mailed to all member households. If you are a new member and have not received the directory, contact the office. The directory contains information about the Fellowship leadership and governance, including a copy of the UUFG bylaws. Email ListsMuch UUFG communication takes place by email, and UUFG has two email options. One way of reaching UUFG members with reminders of important events and last-minute changes in plans is through the UUFG email list. Cam operates this out of the office by sending an email message to all members who have submitted an up-to-date email address. Currently this message service reaches approx. 200 email addresses. To use this service, e-mail Cam at

or if time is short, call him mornings at 377-1669. Use the email list for “official” notices that need to be sent to all UUFG members. Cam will ask the minister or the Governing Board President to review your request before sending to the email list. Be sure that the office has your correct email address to be included on this list. The second email option is the news-and-needs listserv. Any congregant can use the news-and-needs listserv, which contains a similar list of email addresses as the official email list described above. Contact the office for information on accessing news-and-needs. Items posted on news-and-needs should be brief. Postings may be about UUFG business—for example housing a family displaced by Hurricane Katrina or announcing the men’s group meeting—or personal—for example needing a ride to a doctor’s appointment. Please do not use this network to tout causes not affiliated with or endorsed by UUFG or for commercial purposes. See the Email lists web page for current information. A second general listserv, community-matters, is intended to provide an avenue for members and friends to publicize events and activities of general interest to the UUFG community. news-and-needsAny member or friend can use the news-and-needs email listserv, which contains a list of e-mail addresses similar to the the all-member email list mentioned below. JOIN: If you currently are not a subscriber to news-and-needs, contact the Office Administrator below to join the list. SEND MESSAGE TO LIST: Only members can send to the list. To send a message to new-and-needs use the following address:

and send out your message. Items posted on news-and-needs should be brief. Postings may be about UUFG business, for example, announcing a power outage and requesting battery lanterns or announcing the chronic illness support group meeting—or personal, for example needing a ride to a doctor’s appointment. Please do not use this network to tout causes not affiliated with or endorsed by UUFG or for commercial purposes. If you wish to respond to a news- and-needs announcement, take care to reply only to the sender (do not hit “reply all”) unless your response needs to go to everyone. No one wants an email box overloaded with correspondence between other people. And remember to keep your news-and-needs messages brief, and do not just forward messages you receive. If you do receive a message of interest, summarize and provide links to relevant web pages. community-mattersWhereas news-and-needs is restricted to UUFG-related news as well as personal needs, community-matters covers general community events and news (though not limited to the immediate Gainesville community) and social justice issues. It works like news-and-needs. JOIN: If you currently do not receive community-matters, contact the Office Administrator below to join the list. SEND MESSAGE TO LIST: To send messages to the list, which will be received by all its members, address your email to:

- Policies for both community-matters and news-and-needs have been adopted by the Governing Board. They can be found in the Policy on Electronic Communications, approved by the Governing Board on May 20, 2007
Bulletin BoardsEach committee has an assigned bulletin board in the Phillips Social Hall. These bulletin boards are monitored by the Communications Committee, who will remove old or inappropriate material. Please note the date posted and provide an expiration date for material posted on the bulletin board. Make sure the information is easy to read and pertains directly to your committee or is of interest of UUFG generally. You are encouraged to post meeting times and dates as well as minutes of your committee meetings. Please do not place announcements supporting political candidates on the bulletin boards. And remember that because the bulletin boards may be read by UUFG renters, be discreet about posting personal information about members. See the Policy on Bulletin Boards. Query/Comment BoxA box for queries and comments from UUFG members has been placed in the Phillips Social Hall to the left of the door from the foyer. Buildings and Grounds LogAnyone may communicate with the Buildings and Grounds Committee about needed repairs and ideas for improvement by writing comments on the Buildings and Grounds log located in the kitchen. Town Hall Meetings and Similar Forums Town Hall meetings are held periodically and are coordinated by the Committee on the Ministry and/or the Strategic Planning Committee. If your group or committee has a topic or issue that needs to be addressed by the membership at a town meeting, contact the office. Communications PoliciesThe UUFG Governing Board has approved the following three Communications Policies: - CC-1 Policy on Electronic Communications
- CC-2 Policy on Print Communications
- CC-3 Policy on Bulletin Boards
